Caddo Magnet High invites your school to participate in our annual Tal Atkins memorial quiz bowl tournament, to be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, starting at 9 AM. We will again be using NAQT questions and format for the tournament. The question set we’ll be using is 176A. The plan is to re-bracket after lunch – giving every team as many games as possible to play.
There is one significant change: this year we are offering a JV as well as Varsity division. The JV division is officially limited to teams with no students older than sophomores, but brand new programs or very small schools may be eligible for this division as well. Contact me if you think this might apply to your team.
As in previous years, check-in and room assignments will begin at 8:30am in the library. (The National Honor Society will be holding its annual pancake breakfast fundraiser in the cafeteria from 8 AM to 10 AM. Each plate will cost $5 and proceeds will go to build wells in communities in need of fresh water.) The entry fee for the tournament is $60 per team. We are not offering a buzzer discount this year, but would appreciate you bringing buzzer sets if possible. We are offering a discounted registration fee for brand new programs (those which did not compete in any NAQT tournaments last year.) Again, please contact me if you think this might apply to your team.
Registration will again be through the NAQT website. If you prefer not to use the NAQT system, you may also register through email – to firstname.lastname@example.org . You may pay the tournament fee by check – payable to Caddo Magnet High School – which can be mailed to 1601 Viking Drive, Shreveport, LA, 71101 or brought the day of the tournament.
There will be a hospitality room with complimentary refreshments for coaches and parents. The construction near campus has finally been completed, but there are still not a large number of places nearby for lunch. We recommend that students bring food or purchase a pizza lunch for $5 (we will take orders for the pizza lunch at registration).
We are looking forward to seeing you and kicking off the Louisiana Quiz Bowl season with a great tournament! Please don’t hesitate to email, call, or text me with questions or comments.
